I just !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! to figure out that the model code for the sixth gen Subaru Outback is [checks back to Wikipedia] “ BT ” as in Big Toy, and the engine code for the 2.4L turbo is [checks again] “ FA24 " as in Failed Again 2.4 (boy I hope not).

Now I can discuss the car properly with all of the knowledgeable Subaru fans. The meme is close enough, and it has a dog, so it stays.

I only joined the forum to learn more about excessive oil consumption.

You might as well brush up on your check engine codes while you’re at it.

Well, on one of the forums I frequent, the code for a particular model is literally SNOB (Ski Nautique Open Bow). I have a SANTE, however (Super Air Nautique Team Edition) (yes, the Team Edition MATTERS).

Suck it, Trebek.

lol forums. but what would we do without them?

Supposedly the . . . FA24 . . . doesn’t have this problem, but the Ascents have only been out for a year, so a bit early to tell.

Some of these were burning oil within the first 10,000 miles.... Mine started around 20,000 miles.

Are you driving an Ascent? I thought that you had an Outback with excellent wheel bearings and engine . As much as people tend to react to my purchase with expressions of confidence in the reliability, at least I know the reality is likely to be . . . challenging.

No I’m driving an outback, but my opinion is that Subar u has not really addressed these issues fully and they are really good at using the same parts across platforms. I really hope your experience is better than mine. I am curious to see if they have figured out how to keep engines from burning straight 20 yet...

Nice...I’ve never bothered to make fun of the codes, but might as well start.

Mine is a B5 Passat, as in “Sick of all this B ull 5 hit” and the engine is an ATQ, which might as well be “ A nother T orque Q onverter”

I can’t wait to get a new car soon so I can actually list all the stuff that’s broken (or has broken). And I’m lucky, relatively speaking, among early 2000s VW owners.

I wasn't making fun so much as trying to make a way to remember them.

T his makes the EJ25D   E ngine J ust 2- k   5 to D ie.
Took five to die. Five what? Miles? Months? Years? That’s up to the stock headgaskets, which go something along the lines of: s omething something head gaskets something something coolant something something Kaboom.

And then you’re paying $1000 for the privilege of having your engine ripped out.

So, that wouldn’t be a 6th gen. It’s either a 7th gen, i f you go along with the Legacy generations (because it started as a trim package on the 2nd gen Legacy,) or a 5 th gen, as the 3rd gen Legacy was the first year where they were listed as separate models. Despite actually being more similar to the Legacy wagon than the 2nd gen trim level was...

Or I suppose it could also be a 3rd gen Outback, because the 5th gen was the first generation where Sedan=Legacy and Wagon=Outback, in the US. Or 2nd gen, because the 6th gen was the first to not offer a L egacy wagon in any market, making the Outback truly it’s own car...
